The meeting was called to order by S/M President Boggs at 1830.

Members present were S/M’s Alers, Boggs, Broussard, Caskey, Erickson. Gray, Melvin, Miethker, Nevgloski, Rogers and Siverson.

S/M President Boggs asked if there were any communications to be read. S/M Secretary Rogers indicated that the Branch received correspondence from National HQ thanking the Branch for its donation to the “Book of Memories” for S/M’s Lord and Cook. The Branch received correspondence form the National Vice President, William Starkey, asking the Branch to endorse him for National President for the Association year 2017-2018. Received correspondence from the City of Jacksonville, Recreation and Parks Department asking the Branch to sponsor a 2017 Youth Baseball/Softball team. Received a thank you card from the Barrows family thanking the Branch for its $50.00 in memory of George.

S/M Rogers presented the Treasurer’s report. The report was accepted as presented.

S/M President Boggs asked if there was any Old/Deferred Business – S/M Miethker informed the Branch that all six first place essay contest winners have been notified and plan on attending the Branch meeting in March to receive their awards. S/M Nevgloski gave the Branch an update on the upcoming presentation on Alzheimers disease. The presentation is planned for either 15 or 22 April. Representative Walter Jones will be one of the guest speakers.

S/M President Boggs asked if there was any New Business to discuss – S/M Rogers brought up the request by National Vice President Starkey asking the Branch to endorse him for National President for the Association year 2017-2018. The Branch voted to endorse him for said office. S/M Rogers then brought up the request from the Recreation and Parks Department asking the Branch to sponsor a 2017 Youth Baseball/Softball team. The Branch voted to sponsor a team.

Under “Good of the Order” – A “Two Bell” Ceremony was conducted for S/M George Barrows, SSgt, USMC (Ret). There will be a Retiree Breakfast at the Ball Center on 25 February. The USO also has Breakfast each Saturday commencing at 0800.
