The meeting was called to order by S/M President Boggs at 1830.

Members present were S/M’s Allison, Applewhite, Blizard, Boggs, Broussard, Caskey, Gray, Gorton, Miethker, Nevgloski, Rogers and Siverson.

S/M President Boggs asked if there were any communications to be read. S/M Secretary Rogers indicated that the Branch received correspondence from Potomac Region Branch 207 nominating Shipmate William B “Bill” Ashton for the office of Regional Vice President East Coast Region for Association year 2017-2018. Also received an email from PRPEC Paul Gunther questioning Shipmate Ashton’s qualifications for RVPEC as he has not served as a Regional committee Chairman/Vice Chairman or participated on any committees of the East Coast Region. The Branch received a request from Swansboro High School asking the Branch for a donation for “Project Graduation.”

S/M Rogers presented the Treasurer’s report. The report was accepted as presented.

S/M President Boggs asked if there was any Old/Deferred Business – S/M Rogers informed the Branch that a letter was sent to Thomas Vatter, East Coast Regional President and Thomas Snee, National Executive Director, questioning the results of this year’s Americanism/Patriotism Essay Contest selections at the Regional level. S/M Rogers indicated that the Branch received a check from Jones-Onslow EMC in the amount of $212.21. S/M Rogers informed the Branch that three individuals submitted applications for this years scholarship; Allison Boykin (Grand-Daughter of S/M Erickson), Cody Caskey (Grand-Son of S/M Caskey) and Masaaki Kamiya (Grand-Son of S/M Nevgloski).

S/M President Boggs asked if there was any New Business to discuss – S/M Rogers informed the Branch about 50/50 raffle tickets for the East Coast Regional meeting($25.00 tickets and $1.00 tickets or six for $5.00). S/M President Boggs brought up nominations for this years election of Officers. S/M Boggs was nominated for Branch President and S/M’s Applewhite, Gorton, Rogers and Siverson were nominated for Directors. Nominations/selections will be finalized at the Branch meeting in May.

Under “Good of the Order” – A “Two Bell Ceremony” was conducted for S/M’s James Guadagnolo, SSgt, USMC (Ret), Earl Phillips, Chief, USN (Ret) and Ronald Tenley, Master Chief, USN (Ret).The Vietnam Veterans of America, Jon Panarese Chapter 654 are sponsoring a Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day on Saturday, 29 April commencing at 1030 at the Lejeune Memorial Gardens. Congressman Walter B. Jones will be the keynote speaker at the DAV on 10 May covering head injuries, concussion and TBI: veterans at risk for dementia. Doors open at 1230 and lunch served at 1300. White Oak High School Future Farmers of America are asking for donated items for a silent auction. On 28 April, Zaxby’s will be sponsoring RED (Remember Everyone Deployed) Day from 1000-2200. 10% of all sales will be donated to RED. Military appreciation days at Mission BBQ in May for a free sandwich as follows: Army-15th, Marine Corps-16th, Navy-17th, Air Force-18th, Coast Guard-19th. On Saturday 20 May from 1100-1400 Lunch with the Heroes (free sandwich). A photo was taken of Branch members with President Boggs presenting a check in the amount of $1,000.00 to S/M Raymond Applewhite as a donation to the Corpsman Memorial Fund.
